I recently was accepted and looked up online at student profiles and only 6% of students were African-American. I am African-American and want a really diverse college. Could anyone that goes to BC or has any knowledge tell me about how students interact with each other and if people are open minded or if racial groups stick with each other? Thanks

just so u know bc is not considered a racially diverse campus. it is mostly white and catholic. so if u want a diverse campus i wouldnt go to bc

BC has a very small minority of African Americans--there isn't a great deal of diversity on campus. However, I think people here are generally open minded to other races/religion. Still, if its diversity you're looking for this school probably isn't going to be your best option.

It's true that blacks account for only 6% of this year's freshman class and all AHANA minorities for roughly 28%. But BC has been actively recruiting minorities for several years and has a lot of support programs in place for making them feel welcome and part of the BC community.

Yes, BC is very much a "white" school, but I really do think the students and faculty are very accepting of everyone -- of all races, faiths, and even sexual orientation. I saw several groups of mixed races hanging out together when I visited with my son last week.

"just so u know bc is not considered a racially diverse campus."
"Yes, BC is very much a "white" school,"
"BC has a very small minority of African Americans"

Has everyone actually looked at the numbers or are we going by misconceptions here? BC is a white school...so is the rest of Massachusetts' universities. I don't see how it is "whiter" than any of them or less diverse than them. BC not being diverse in relative to other universities of its caliber is a MYTH!

African-American:/u
(Tufts: 7.2% or 351)
(BU: 2% or 400ish students)
(Harvard: 8% or 521)
(Brandeis: 119)

Asian:/u
(Tufts: 12.5% or 608)
(BU: 12%+ or 2000+ish students)
(Harvard: 14% or 947)
(Brandeis: 293)

Hispanic:/u
(Tufts: 7.7% or 371)
(BU: 7% or 850ish)
(Harvard: 7% or 443)
(Brandeis: 139)

Indian-American:/u
(Tufts: 0.4% or 21)
(BU: 1% or 40ish)
(Harvard: 1% or 41)
(Brandeis: 5)

I wouldn't call BC "diverse" in that it represents proportionally the overall population. But then again, I wouldn't call any of the school above diverse either. So relative to most universities in America, BC is actually pretty decent with its statistic.

in my first year here i have noticed that IN GENERAL minorities hang out with eachother, but thats just like at every college. however, i doubt you would find people who were unfriendly or unwilling to be your friend just because of your race. its not to say that you will only have friends of your race.. but thats probably where you will have your closest group of friends. and if you dont want it that way, then there shouldnt be any difficulty in making it so!

bc is alot more diverse than i expected it to be. also alot more diverse than my HS so i guess thats where my perception is coming from.

i appreciate this post a lot because i have been having many worries over this issue. i'm Hispanic specifically Bolivian. i really like diversity but i also know that BC is a great school and i am considering going there.
