Diversity at MU

I keep hearing people are racist at MU, is this true? I went to the bridges program and I really liked the college and it didn’t seem all that preppy.

From whom r u hearing that? My wife (Asian Indian) and I (Caucasian) dated there for 3 years, and we never encountered any racism. Of course, that was ~30 years ago, but I’d b surprised if racism had infiltrated campus since then.

I’ve just heard online. I heard it’s usually on the down low so not like publicly shown. But how did you guys like it? Was it boring living there since it’s basically in the middle of nowhere

Loved it. Hoping our daughter goes there when she’s old enough. Plenty of things to do. Great uptown. Beautiful campus. But if you’re looking for an urban campus, obviously Oxford wouldn’t b that.

oxford is fun. its a great time. i know my friends and i make fun of the bridges program. im a scholar (asian indian and caucasian mixed) and honestly, it was really irritating and the only good that came out of it was the scholarship. some people poke fun at administration because theyre pushing a liberal agenda. i am definitely one of them. in general, people arent racist but it is a very white school.

@Hm0416 It’s predominantly middle and upper-middle class white kids attending MU. Do they say insensitive stuff now and again? I’m sure they do. The degree to which you will get your feelings triggered by it depends largely on how sensitive you are, but you are not going to feel alienated or unsafe there. The kids are way too busy having a great time at college to be too worried about what race you are.

Miami Ohio is a very good school but when we toured there (2014) there was a serious lack of diversity, and it doesn’t seem to have changed much.

so “looking different” wouldn’t have much of an effect like you won’t feel outcasted?
