I’m super excited about Pitt, but I’m a little wary to go if the price doesn’t come down. I was looking at Pitt’s diversity scholarships, and my stats are well above the recommendations on Pitt’s website. I am part of the LGBTQ community, which counts as an underrepresented group.
Honestly, it seems to good to be true. The website says that Cathedral of Learning Achievement Scholarship (5k-15k per year) and the Cathedral of Learning Prestige Scholarship (full tuition) recipients typically had an SAT of at least 1340 and 1440 respectively, and each had a challenging curriculum. I took the SAT a year ago and got a 1490, and I’m taking it again in a few days. I also have an unweighted GPA of 3.86 and 9 AP classes. I also wrote a short answer question about how I will contribute to the LGBTQ+ community at Pitt, specifically in STEM.
I guess my question is if this is too good to be true. Is the scholarship really based solely on merit and quality of essays, or is it more based on what minority you are?
If anyone knows anything about the scholarship besides what is directly stated on the website, I’d appreciate the input
Our Pitt student knows quite a few who were awarded the diversity scholarship at Pitt and I’ve met a few. None of them are LGBTQ. They are all traditional minority/underserved populations. I’m not sure if that has changed over the past two years. I would contact the school for further clarification. They are alway super helpful.
@mom2boys1999: Congratulations to your awesome kiddo. Did it come in an email or snail mail? Can you share your kid’s stat please.
Is the 20k per year or for 4 years?
@mom2boys1999: Thanks! The offer of 80k is very generous and with those stats he should definitely get Honors college as well. If Pitt is his first choice even better.
Good Luck!
@mom2boys1999 Congratulations to your kid! I’ve been accepted but haven’t heard back about scholarships yet. I’m really hoping for a generous scholarship to bring the price down. My SAT is 1520 and gpa is 3.86 UW and 4.43W with 9 AP classes.
@mom2boys1999 How did your kid hear about his scholarship? Does the portal update in the “Financial Aid” section, or did you only hear about it through a letter in the mail?
