Hi, I was just accepted into Hamilton :) and it seems like a great school! Definitely considering it. I'm a little worried about the lack of ethnic diversity though (I'm Asian from California). I have never visited the school so I'm not sure. Anyone please respond! Thank you :)

Hamilton is trying very hard to be inclusive… Actually, according to the website, Hamilton has about 9% Asian composition. Due to their strong academic and cool reputation, the school seems to be attracting students from other states such as California and indeed, overseas. From what we experienced and have heard, they have created a very friendly culture. Of course, everyone who is unique, will always helps in making it a much more interesting and educational environment.

The school is increasingly becoming more and more diverse. Since the student body is under 2000, a little change does make a great impact. More internationals are coming to campus, and the school is attracting students from everywhere, thus making the school even more selective over the years. On my campus visit, the students were very friendly, and I have seen a few minorities. It is definitely not as diverse as cornell, but among the top northeastern liberal arts colleges, hamilton does have a good deal of diversity.

Our tour guide last spring was a young Asian man and he was so enthusiastic and happy about the school. He said his only regret was that he would have to leave after 4 years instead of staying to go graduate work there! He was from Binghamton NY.

I think Hamilton is so remote that many urban people don’t think of going there. And they’re more likely to be minority than suburban or rural people. On the other hand, you’re right at the edge of the huge Adirondack wilderness at Hamilton, and that could be a great, fun, asset.

greenwitch, the tour guide from Binghampton gave two video tours here:
