Division 3 Golf Recruitment Process

Hello all,

I am currently a sophomore in a private boarding school, and am wondering about the road to playing division 3 golf. Currently I average around a 78 on 18 holes, and my handicap is currently a 4.7. As a sophomore in HS, should I start to contact coaches myself, or should I wait until I play more AJGA tournaments? In high school events I range in between shooting 35 and 40. I would be interested in the lower tier D3 golf schools, (Tufts, NYU, Carnegie Mellon) due to the realistic scoring averages. Should I begin to contact those schools as a sophomore or should I wait until I am a junior/ senior?

Hi, It can’t hurt to put out your interest to coaches, especially if you are very interested in their school. I am not certain what the recruiting rules are for D3 but go to the NCAA website and find out if there are rules for contact. I want to say there is more flexibility with D3 but not sure.
