Division I Cross Country & Track and Field Scholarship.. What should I do?

I'm a pretty good distance runner. I'm a sophomore now but I was wondering if anyone knows any Division I cross country or track distance runners who won a partial or a full scholarship for college.

Any advice?

Thanks!

I talked to a Pole Vaulter who got accepted and is in Harvard now for being one of the best in the nation.

Sure, there’s a lot of collective knowledge here about track and field recruiting. Anything in particular that you’d like to know?

Times I’d have to run for cross country, and for track (1600m, 3200m)

Also which schools would be easier to get a running scholarship at than others?

These guidelines may help you understand the times you need to be recruited … [Men’s Track Recruiting Guidelines](http://www.ncsasports.org/recruiting-tools/College-Track-Recruiting/mens-track-recruiting-guidelines)

This link shows the number of scholarships that are allowed … [Division I (NCAA) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](NCAA Division I - Wikipedia). Two caveats … first, a school may not grant all the scholarships allowed by the NCAA (for example, the Ivies give none) … second, cross country and track & field teams have a lot of members and the scholarship limit is pretty low so even if a school grants all the scholarships allowed one full scholarship is often split between many team members.

Thank you!

One last question:

Do you think schools like BU, USC, or BYU give out many scholarships.

I was going to ask about Harvard but I know they don’t offer track and field scholarships.

My guess is that the schools you mentioned are fully funded for T&F, which means they give the NCAA allotted number of scholarships (12.6 for men, 18 for women) to be distributed among the entire track and XC rosters

If you are asking because you want to run at the collegiate level, then go for it.

If you are looking for a track scholarship to fund your education…you’d be better off getting a part-time job now and saving the money.

^^ and getting excellent grades and SAT/ACT scores so that the track coach can advocate for you to get some merit money as well as athletic $. The comibination of athletic and merit scholarships can sometimes add up to the right amount.

I’m asking for both of these reasons.

Riverrunner, that’s awesome I hope I can get a high enough SAT
