The title is self-explanatory. Basically, I'm wondering how much being on a team interferes with academics and being able to stay on campus most of the time. I've heard rumors of needing tutors due to being on the road so much.

Games are mostly on weekends in the NESCAC. .

I don't think it's a problem, but travel does vary from sport to sport. I would recommend that you look at the team pages, which include their schedules, and see what you think.
If you are recruited by a coach there, that would certainly be a good thing to ask him or her and the members of the team about.

Have you heard these rumors about needing tutors from Williams students? Your subject line was just Division III, so I wasn't sure if the rumors were Williams-specific or not.

My son is not at Williams but does play a demanding winter NESCAC sport.
Generally there are 2 games /week-Friday and Saturday. There is an occasional game on Tuesdays. The longest trip for him is about an 8 hour bus ride. They leave early on Friday and get back after midnight after their Saturday game

None of the players have tutors and all seem to keep up with their studies
In season, the coach has mandatory study hall for all first year players and any player not keeping a 3.0 GPA

That's somewhat reassuring. I've recently been in contact w/ the coach for men's crew, and started wondering about this. Good to hear I won't need a tutor, then! :)
