hi guys. as with all of you, i’m also very excited to apply!

@rosco1292 - essay? are you referring to the reasons for applying to this program or am i missing something…

and best of luck to all of us!

:) Yeah, that’s what I meant. I’ve just been calling it an essay…

Yes, getting an invitation IS a big deal, particularly if Amherst is one of your top choices. It give you a leg up in the admissions process. They’ll get a chance to see you for a weekend and you’ll get a chance to see the college in session. If you get a chance to get accepted to this weekend, then you’re chances of being accepted to the college are greatly enhanced.

does anyone know the admission rate for this program? im just wondering whether this is a everyone-get-in type of program or a competitive one

No,everyone doesn’t get in. If you look at some of the old posts from other years. Some people who are accepted to this weekend aren’t accepted (but it’s not a high percentage) and there are students who don’t get accepted to the weekend who are accepted to Amherst for admissions. My daughter did go to the weekend and was accepted Early Decision. Great deal if Amherst is your first choice.

What does it matter whether it’s competitive or not?

Amherst College, one of the nation’s premiere institutions of higher learning, would be paying you to visit. It has already been made clear that beneficiaries of the program receive substantial preference in admission.

Please explain your line of reasoning.

@ kwu: it doesn’t “matter” in so far as persuading me to apply or not to apply to this program. in fact, i had already sent in my application couple days before asking the question. and to answer your question, i asked this question because i was curious about my chances.

but i don’t understand what’s so wrong behind inquiring about the admissions for this program. yes i know Amherst and its great academic reputation, but regardless, i think that me asking about the competitiveness was completely legitimate. plus, not only me, but i’m sure other applicants are probably curious of the same question.

it seems to me, as i observed from your tone of language, that you are bothered by my question. if i may ask, what bothers you so much about my inquiry? i’d appreciate your response.

i got a letter too! i’m Chinese but a Canadian citizen…if that makes sense.

i applied for the october one & really hope to be accepted!

Hi everybody, so I see that a lot of you are very excited about DivOH. I was the same way last year when I got my invite from Amherst. Ever since I had visited there in March, Amherst was my number one school. So I definitely was going to apply to the DivOH program; however, I was DEVESTATED when I was not admitted. This rejection did not change my view on Amherst, so I still applied ED, and was accepted in December!

Wow! That’s inspiring jroberson11 ; it’s good to know that DIVOH isn’t what makes or breaks you in the admissions office.

And does anyone think it would be a bad idea to present my application…creatively (3D)…? I want it to stand out! But I don’t want it to stand out negatively haha. If not, I could just print my essay and send it. But I also have another idea…

DID ANYONE ELSE GET AN EMAIL FROM DEAN HENDRICKS?! Ahhhh I’m so excited! Lol all it said was that they recieved my application and they’ll get back to me soon but I’m still so happy idk why hahaa.

Oh wow, thank you for reminding me to send mine off… is stressed
I hope it isn’t too late. :(

Hahaa you’re welcome

But it’s not too late! You have 'til August 13th so go for it :D

Whew, that was a big relief! :)

@elbeeen

I got one, and I was super stoked! Even if it only said they’d received my app haha

Has anyone received anything yet? (Other than e-mail from Dean Hendricks that app was received). D applied and is dying to hear.

I haven’t, other than a confirmation email about my application. I think they said they’ll send out notifications in “early september” so only a few weeks to hear back =D

can someone remind me of the dates. I guess we “recycled” our copy of the application. thanks

September 24th - 26th and October 22-25th

Well…I sent in my application on the 12th (probably too late to get in along with all of you guys who sent it the day you got the application), and I didn’t even get a confirmation email.

Oh well.
