Divorced parents--which one?

I'm a little confused about which parent I am supposed to submit my FAFSA under. I've talked to a few different people about this and no one seems to agree.

Here's my situation:

My parents are divorced. I have lived with my mom for the majority of the past 12 months (all the time, really), but as part of the divorce settlement my dad gets to claim me on his taxes. So, which one should file my FAFSA, the one I live with or the one that claims me?

Thanks. This is really important to me.

The parent with whom you live the majority of the time is the one who files FAFSA, which would be your mother. Which parent claims you on taxes is irrelevant to FAFSA.

Agree with vballmom. Often the higher-income bracket parent will get the deduction because it saves that parent more $ on taxes.
