Some of my friends are getting an extra one after being deferred. Does that mean I'm out for sure?

No, I don't think so. I believe that those who are getting another interview are those that have impressive stats but their interview left something about them personally open to question or just added little to the overall picture. Someone who was deferred but had an interview that went very well or gave a clear picture of the student one way or the other would not need to be interviewed again for a decision to be made.

It means you're definitely in or definitely out. A second interview can at its base be taken to mean you're borderline--if you were a sure accept they wouldn't need it, and if you were a sure reject they wouldn't bother. From what I've heard, it's because of either an anomalous interview (good credentials, good recs, but bad interview), often with a young or inexperienced interviewer. Don't read too much into it, most people don't get second interviews, and many who don't get in ;)

Did all of your friends have the same interviewer as you? If so, that isn't a great sign. But if not the new interviews could be because Harvard need a more experienced interviewer for your friends.

I don't there is any way it could be a good sign, but chances are it doesn't mean anything.

Well the two kids that got new interviews had different interviewers (one is in a different state, and one lives like 10 miles away).
