Or does it vary based on major?

My guess would be most of us freshmen take roughly the same general courses, but then different classes that delve a little deeper into my major.

No. The only 'universal' freshmen class is a First-Year Writing Seminar (FWS), and most students have to take at least 1, and usually 2. Freshmen also have to take 2 semesters of gym (but the choices are endless and amazing) and they also have to pass the swim test.
Beyond that, it is specific for each college/major, so check out your school/major page and see what they say.

It should be noted that although practically all freshmen take 2 (sometimes 1) writing seminars, there are about 50 different ones to choose from.

I"ll be a Junior in the fall..It depends on your college..
