What are typical freshmen courses at penn

so what do freshmen usually take at penn during 1st semester? is foreign language required at penn? if you know what you want to minor in, such as creative writing, can you right away start taking courses in the creative writing workshop?

It depends on your major. Some (sciences, engineering, Wharton, Nursing) are very structured and a lot of the decisions are made for you. Others (like mine, Classics) are pretty wide open - we have only 2 required courses. On the other hand we also have 2 languages to learn, and its best to start those as early as possible.

So the answer to what people take is pretty much:

1) Introductory major requirements,
2) Language if you didn't test out
3) General Requirements

Try and take a writing class as a freshman if you can, because you'll be bored off your ass if you take it later, plus you can get all bondy with the other frosh in your class. Freshman seminars are also a great option to get quality faculty time.
I think you're eligible to take some creative writing classes (although not all are open to freshman), but it's usually tough to get into those classes as they're small and in demand. You're definitely able to utilise KWH though, and they have all kinds of writing workshops.
