I’m wondering if any of you know of any schools, particularly in the Midwest or Southeast, offer their MT students a semester of study in NYC? My d is interested in going to college there, but finances and some other factors probably won’t make that feasible. A semester there would be a nice compromise.
Muhlenberg offers a semester in NYC as one of its “study abroad” programs – it looks terrific with experiences in agencies, at casting offices, and more. A great look at the perspective from “the other side of the table,” if you will.
(They also have an unbelievable program on a mountaintop in Italy – a semester studying comedic acting, a semester studying ballet … or spend a year there and do one of each! Look into it if you haven’t already, Muhlenberg has a fantastic non-audition BA that looks incredibly customizable and rigorous.)
Otterbein “launches” their seniors in November of their senior year into internships with casting agencies in NYC and then they do their showcase. Returning to Otterbein to graduate.
Students from other schools can apply to the Syracuse University Tepper Semester in NYC. 3 students from my current school, and 2 from my former have done the program, and loved it!
I third @gatorbridget original comment and @notmath1 second about Otterbein. One of the deciding factors for my son was the internship in NYC senior year. Plus that means non-seniors (mostly) make up the cast in the play and musical in Spring.
