I’m a single parent transferring to UCSC in the Fall (assuming the world doesn’t end before then) and I’m a little concerned about my prospects for getting my three year old into campus preschool. I just mailed in a wait list application, but I’ve heard the wait lists can be so long for UC childcare that by the time kids get in their parents have already graduated. Does anyone have any experience with this? My needs are exceptionally high and I’m not sure I’ll be able to afford off campus care while I’m in school. Santa Cruz has a fantastic selection of hippy dippy preschools, but they’re extremely costly. I know the majority of people on this site are childless, but it would be extremely helpful to hear from anyone who has dealt with this! There doesn’t seem to be much information out there for student parents.
