UCSB Living & Learning Communities

Does anyone have experience with the College of Creative Studies, Women in Science & Technology or Scholars living & learning communities? How likely is it to get into the LLC you request? Are they filled first come (I know the UCSB website says “no” on that for residence halls in general)? My daughter sent in her SIR for CCS and, while we’re waiting to get final details on her accounts, we’ve moved on to looking carefully at housing options. She would prefer to live in the CCS LLC but we have no idea how likely that is to happen. Thanks for any info you can give!

I requested to live in an LLC - I actually mentioned 3 I wanted, but I didn’t get into any.

Between freshmen, it’s NOT first-come-first-serve, but all the current freshmen who are living in the dorms next year already got to pick. They probably didn’t take up many of the spaces in the LLCs, since most of 'em are in Manzanita and San Raf anyway (don’t even bother trying to get into those two dorms - the spaces were filled before even I got the chance).

That being said, if your daughter’s already in CCS, then she’s probably a lot more likely to get into it than the other ones since fewer people would request to live there - there are VERY few CCS students compared to the other colleges.

Thank you

As far as I know, most CCS kids are put together in Manzanita as freshmen.
