Do your AP scores make a difference in the college admissions process? I don't mean grades in an AP class...I mean the scores on the actual test.

Yes, they do! Its standing it similiar to that of the SAT IIs in that subject - because it isn't subjective (as grades are: the difficulty of your AP course results in the grade you get... for example, ap chemistry is a BEAST at our school yet ap statistics was a joke - all because of the teacher who taught it) and its graded on the SAME scale nationwide.

Therefore your score reflects how you stand among thousands of other students who are taking the EXACT same test, and that reflects also your ability to do college work :)

Adcoms think that if you can get an A in a college level in high school, you probobly can get an A in college. It's a important test of you likelyhood of sucsess in college.

But what if you self study it and not take the course at all?

@a-san...then...if you get a good grade on it...like a four or above...the adcoms will see you not only as able to do college level cousework...but will probably see initiative in you as well

It matters, but then again, its not looked at as much as gpa and SAT/ACT. It all depends on where you apply. If you apply to state schools, they won't care unless you took many AP's and got 5's on them. If you apply to Ivy league, it could make the difference of getting accepted or rejected.

I think colleges generally care more about the fact that you took the course and did well than what you got on the AP test. AP text scores are used for placement when/if you're accepted

5 or 4 and maybe even 3 = submit.

2 or 1 = hide. f' the score.

from what i hear, colleges don't even see ur AP scores unless ur SAT scores go out (which will happen) - is this correct?
i thought they only considered AP test scores after you were admitted to see what u pertain to in regards to university AP credit policy

Most college applications ask for self-reported AP scores. If you lie they will find out when you enroll.
