I heard that some colleges don't even use ap scores for admission, but instead for placement. How much do ap scores really matter? Would someone be fine with only straight A's and good SAT 1/2 scores if they were reaching for the top schools?

AP classes are used for admissions. AP scores are used only for placement. Correct me if I am wrong. It might vary with certain colleges.

Yeah, I think that's right. A lot colleges don't count your score against you, but they consider whether or not you took any AP or honors courses. I think that most top schools consider your score though.

Might have some weight for colleges determining the quality of your class---if you got a B in the class but a 5 on the exam, the class was probably pretty hard. If you got a 100 in the class and a 2 on the exam, well... maybe the class wasn't all that difficult\good.
