I’m a rising junior in high school, and my high school considers all grades ranging 90-100 as a 4.0 UW. I do still get number grades on my transcript though, so the 90-92 will show up. This year, I got all solid A’s except for an A- in AP Biology, and my freshman year I got two A-s. So in all, I’ve gotten 3. My GPA wasn’t affected by these A-s, so will admission officers just see the 4.0 UW GPA and move on, or will my A-s lower my admission chances? Also, do colleges such as Princeton and Stanford actually not consider freshman grades or is that a myth?
Most school’s don’t even consider the differences between minuses and pluses when looking at grades. A 90-100 is an A, 80-89 is a B, and so on. Schools like the ivies will also likely recalculate your GPA so the comparison against other applicants is far.
Most colleges use a system similar to the UCs wherein some courses are weighted as honors, some honors are’t actually honors, DE classes are given a slightly larger boost than AP/honors classes, and your weighted GPA is calculated from 4.0-5.0. They don’t care about plus/minus grades.
