Do Colleges Care About This?

I know that colleges are often labeled conservative, liberal, etc. and I'm sure they are, to some extent. That being said, would they exclude members for certain controvertial ECs they take part in? For example, I have been a part of many pro-life events, and associations. Should I exclude this from certain colleges to improve my chances?

No, I don’t think they will care. From what I know, it might go against the personal beliefs of some adcoms, but in general, participation in these events will demonstrate that you have a strong belief and passion for them. This passion will come to define a part of your application and give adcoms a depiction of who you are as an individual. This is the sort of thing that adcoms like to see, a strong dedication to a certain type of EC rather than just a loose collection of different ECs. So, I think that it may actually benefit from you in some cases, but certainly not disadvantage you in the admissions process.

don’t worry about it being controversial, colleges won’t see your application and say “oh my gosh this totally goes against my beliefs, i’m not admitting her!!”

they are more likely to be happy to see that someone has a passion, regardless of how controversial or taboo it may be

Woah OP I’m the same way. I’m mostly liberal and applied to mostly all very liberal LACs but I happen to be pro life and have participated in many pro life events. I talked about them at my interviews and was accepted to all but two of my schools (ironically I was waitlisted at Georgetown).

I doubt there will be an effect. I was admitted to a selective school often called “conservative” with essays about socialist revolution.

The only way I could see beliefs getting in the way would be if a student wrote essays about being pro-choice and sent them to very religious schools. I mean, besides obvious ones like fascism or KKK membership.

I think that if a college would reject you because of your pro-life activism, then it probably would not be a good fit for you.
