I'm starting a Young Marxists club at school, where we discuss Marxist philosophy and debate other political groups at school (young republicans/democrats). Will admissions officers view this as with biased conservatism and as a negative to my application?

I believe you should be yourself, do the activities that YOU want to do. A college that rejects you based on YOUR interests – whether they be Marxist philosophy, conservatism, LGBTQ, or anything else – is probably not the school for you. If Marxism is a strong interest for you, then it may help you make a “match” with a school that appreciates you for that.

I agree 100% with seattle_mom. I wrote my stance on abortion for one of my UPenn essays, and the way I described the situation was quite one-sided, but those were my views and that’s the main reason that colleges want to see your activities and read your essays. If a college questions your acceptance on your beliefs, my advice is that that college isn’t for you.

Thanks for the input. I live in Texas (in a mostly conservative high school) where fear of indoctrination with a school speech find a solid root. It’s hard even to find a teacher willing to sponsor the club. I guess that if a university responds with the same sort of paranoia I wouldn’t be comfortable there.
