Do colleges care at what age do you take the SAT?

I took the SATs in high school, but I got a 1130 and quit there. I want to retake them now so I can transfer to a better 4 year college. I’m currently in community college. I have maintained a GPA of 3.7 out of 4.00, some of them Honors and have completed multiple Honors projects. In high school, I had an unweighted GPA of 3.98 and took multiple AP course (around 10) and all Honors. I also speak 2 languages and I am a nurse assistant. Given the history, will colleges care if you retake the SAT at the age of 20/21?

My understanding is that colleges want the most recent data possible, so it shouldn’t matter that you take it after HS. You’ve obviously learned more and grown more, so your test scores and application should reflect that. If you’re super concerned, call and ask your individual colleges, since some might have different policies.

If you’re in community college, they will not ask for -nor do they care- what your SAT score was (or even your high school grades for that matter). As long as you have completed 24 hours at your community college, you are considered a transfer and they don’t give a hooha about ACTs or SATs. All they look at is your community college transcript and ECs (honors projects). You’ll be fine. no worries. If you have not yet completed 24 hours… stick it out at Community College until you have the hours. It’s cheaper and a 3.7 GPA form a community college is more impressive than a 3.98 in high school. Your community college record should be enough to get you some merit aid at some schools. Good luck!

The SAT is a test meant for high school students. It is unlikely that a college will be impressed when a college student scores well. Also if you have completed two years at a CC typically colleges don’t look back at a HS record/SAT scores.
