Do colleges care how much community theatre experience you have?

Does it matter if you don’t have any community theatre credits? Will colleges not take you seriously if you have none?

My only theatre involvement has been at my high school. If I went in and had a great audition, would the school even care or be offput that I don’t have any credits on my resume besides high school plays and musicals?

Thanks!

IMHO- Unless it is a well known theater (regional professional) or famous PA HS (Laguardia, Interlochen etc) most colleges have NO way of telling the quality of the performances you have been involved with in the past. While they will be interested in your experiences and may ask you questions about shows, but they will make their decision based on your audition NOT your resume

Not really. Your audition is everything unless they know you from prior camps, etc…

It shouldn’t be a problem at all – you are involved at school and above all they look at your audition. Break a leg!

Thank you for the replies! I’m really relieved to hear this

For some reason I was concerned they’d look at my resume and think “Oh, shes only been in school productions? How inexperienced!” or something haha. Thanks for putting my mind at ease!

A lot of people live in areas where regional/community theatre isn’t even available to them! I wouldn’t worry about it at all. I’ve met several people in the program at my school who only worked within their high schools.

In general, your resume doesn’t really matter. Your audition matters. The only role of the resume, in my experience, was to start a conversation.
