Do Colleges Care if You Switch Schools Once?

I'm considering changing schools for Junior and Senior year (really complicated reason why), but my father said that colleges will see me as fickle and unable to commit -- to one high school or one college. He says that this will hurt my college chances (I'm a good student with great PSAT scores, and lots of extracurriculars and I want to apply to some top notch schools). What do you think?

No, they don’t; your father is full of bologna.

That’s what I was hoping to hear :)

As long as you’re not changing from a super competitive/hard high school to one that is a complete joke, you’re fine! Go to the school you’ll be happier at :D

No, it would be unfair if they do. Sometimes it is not in our control to move and switch school.
I avoid switching school unless necessary since it is so much hassles to get the classes you want at a new school, and sometimes you end up falling behind because the school would not let you take this class, that class, blah blah blah. I always want to roll my eye at how inflexible school officials can be.
If you would be happier, then switch.

I moved and had to switch schools at the beginning of my sophomore year, so it wasn’t exactly something I could control. If colleges blame me for that, that would be really stupid.

Unless you mean that you’re not moving; just switching schools because you like another school better. Still, in that scenario, I don’t think colleges would care because if you think you can get a better education at a different school, it shows that you care about your education. :)

^ They aren’t even able to tell if you switched schools because you liked the other one better. Some people have to switch high schools without moving for many reasons: zoning reasons, transportation issues, parent’s career, etc.

Great, I feel so much better. Thanks everyone!

It would be unfair if admissions officers looked down upon you for moving schools… I may have to move from a private to a public school during senior year because of financial reasons… (not that my current school is better lol. Most people associate private schools with geniuses but lolno. The public school sends 8+ people to ivies/mit/stanford every year and has billions of NMSFs. My school is lucky to send one every three years and have 2 NMSFs in one year. XD)
