Do colleges ever give last minute money

If yes- if your 3rd quarter senior grades aren’t as high as before, would it hurt your chances

After May 1 that some students declined the admission s even with merit aids, the school may redistribute the left over money.

My daughter waited to commit until a few days before May 1 and appealed to two schools that she was contemplating- both sweetened the deal. I would guess that it depends on the school and what the student’s contributions to the community would be.

It not very likely to have an updated FA package before May 1 that may affect your decision. It is even less likely that they will re-evaluate you again for merit scholarship after your recent grades. But there are “last minute money” given over the summer. My D got a significant increase in grant and replaced all loans and workstudy a few years ago. My friend’s D also got some in July or August some years ago.

@Aussiemom . Curious to know how she appealed? Deciding between two schools now, one with much better FA offer that is higher ranked than one with lower offer.

All you need to do is ask if they will re-consider the aid package. Let them know that they are the first choice, ask what paperwork they’d need to receive. Some will ask you to send a copy of the other offer.

But you do need to know that lots of places do not re-consider their packages. So don’t be surprised if you are told that their offer is as good as it can be.

My husband talked with someone on-site at Financial Aid office and was candid and said DD loves school but it could be tough for us. Is that the best you can do? They just asked to put the request in writing along with any circumstances like medical bills which may not be accounted for. Like Happymomof1 said, it doesn’t always work. One school she got in and loved when she visited but even with merit aid was out of reach, FA office wouldn’t reconsider so it she eliminated that school. The first two were small LACs and the last was a larger school so don’t know if that was a factor or not.
