Do colleges have a way to find out how many times you took the ACT?

There is a clear score-choice policy for the ACT, which allows you to send only those scores you want to. So can colleges check how many times you actually took the test, or they will just go with what you tell them? (I'm mostly concerned about Ivy Leagues)

Unless you tell them, and you might actually be required to provide them by the college (true for Yale, Penn and Cornell but not other ivies), the other way they can often learn your scores is your high school transcript because many high schools put all your scores on the transcript sent to colleges, so you better find out what your high school does before making any decision (note, you must inquire of your high school and not guess at the issue; the fact that test scores might not appear on the transcript you get each semester from your high school does not mean the high school won’t put them on the transcript sent to colleges).

@drusba what if I am an international student, and my school does not put ACT scores on its transcript. Will they still find out? I mean if I tell them that I’ve took it 2 times and I send 2 score reports while I actually took the test three times - will they find out that I’m lying?

ACT does not provide anything to colleges to indicate you even took a test that is not one you are sending. If neither you nor your high school provides the info, then colleges will not know absent some evil friend who wants to squeal on you. Nevertheless, you should not lie about whether you took a test. That creates the worst of all worlds because a misrepresentation during the application process can itself be grounds for denying admission or withdrawing any admission given if the college ever learns you did lie.

I have a related question: If I have taken the SAT but am not happy with my score, but took the ACT and received a good score do I still have to send my SAT score to the college? (If they do NOT participate in score choice)

@mirmir123 I think the colleges that require you to send all scores only mean that you must send either all of your ACT scores or all of your SAT scores. At least, that is what the admissions officer at Pomona told me. So I think you can just send the ACT score, but maybe you should ask the admissions office at the college.

does it mean the high school will know the number of times my kid took the ACT and the scores?

can I request ACT not sending the result to the high school?

Check each school. A few require ALL tests to be sent.

Thank you all for your responses! I actually called the school’s undergraduate admissions office and this is what they told me: I do not have to send my SAT score. But when submitting the ACT, I must send them all my scores. But like the above poster said, each school may be different. It’s tricky stuff, I must say
