I am trying to find out how I should balance the extra information that I send to colleges (in regards to portfolios, written works, etc.). Do colleges HAVE to read every single thing one puts on his or her app? Because if so, I’m guessing putting a little extra information could potentially come across as annoying.
On the other hand, if it isn’t some sort of rule, I feel I may have more leeway. Let me know and thanks!
@ClarinetDad16 Haha I understand that. What I mean is specifically, do they HAVE to read every single thing you write? I have several extracurriculurs which I will bring to the college I choose and am very passionate about and am thinking of creating a website. But how much information I include will vary depending on how much they are required to read (I wasn’t sure if there are rules as such regarding that for most colleges… I know some colleges prefer not for students to include long research papers so I was wondering if they are required to read through all material students post).
No they don’t I remember Stanford said they wouldn’t read any outside recommendations. It was a bummer since no one at my son’s school knew his capabilities in comp sci. (He took the AP as a freshman.)
On the other had George Washington said they’d read every single outside recommendation, though they might get cross with you if there were too many and they didn’t add anything to the application.
