Do colleges know when you put them as first choice..

on the application for the NMF scholarship?
And this can be changed correct? nothing written in stone at this point for 2015?
Thanks!

No. The names of finalists who name a particular college as their first choice are sent to those colleges in pools (I think 3 different dates) of which March 1 is when the first pool is sent.

You can remain undecided as long as you want up until NMSC’s deadline of May 31st or possibly earlier (usually around May 1st) if you want to be eligible for a college’s NMF package that will include a small part from NMSC and a much larger part from the school itself. A few schools will require you to be in the first pool to be considered for their scholarship. Always check with the school about their deadlines.

You can also change your first choice as often as you want but there is a caution that NMSC will start mailing college-sponsored award letters on May 1st so be careful to either be undecided or have your final first choice listed by that date. This is because you can’t change to a different college-sponsored scholarship once one is in the mail to you. I believe all this is explained in a letter to finalists (or maybe semi-finalists). Just read everything carefully.
