Do Colleges Like Debate?

If you are a successful debater (Lincoln-Douglas, the most prestigious debate format) on the national level, and win awards - is that considered to be a strong EC and a deciding factor? How much would it help?

Thanks

Yup it is considered to be strong. Exactly how strong is beyond me.

I think it would help greatly. Who wouldn’t want a student who can think? reason? speak articulately? let alone debate? and win?

The irony of debate:
If you do it for college, you will never be good enough for it to be worth anything on your college resume. So with your mentality, it probably won’t do any good.

schlaag- Everyone should be encouraged to use their debate skills, intellect and spirit to articulate hope and inspire passion in others. I don’t know if you realize how negative and discouraging you sound, but this is the second post that I have read from you in the past week which was discouraging and based on black and white thinking. Use your debating gifts and skilled words to help others and provide encouragement. This is what true leaders are capable of. Inspiring others to find their passions and then allowing them the freedom to grow in their abilities. The next time I read your comments, I hope you can use your words of wisdom to support someone. Try it!
P.S. I am being genuine in my words of advice to you and not trying to sound mean… just try it! This is how you make friends with people!

I debate because it’s passion and I already am successful at the national level. I just wanted to know if it was weighed by colleges in admission.

The real irony is that your on this board wasting your time whenever you have literally nothing to offer anyone - especially when you can’t derive understanding from a basic post.
