Do colleges like seeing multiple languages?

For the languages I am proficient in on college applications, I plan to say that I am proficient in two. English, of course, is my first language, and is the language I speak at home. Also, I have been learning Spanish for four or five years now in school, and have become proficient in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish. I am in the process of self-studying Esperanto.

Will colleges like to see that I am proficient in two languages (or three, depending on how quickly I get good at Esperanto)? Or will they be more dismissive of the Spanish since I studied it only in school? Would they not like Esperanto because it’s an invented language and is fairly easy for English-speakers to learn?

Colleges will like it if you are fluent in them. I am fluent in four (hopefully five by next year), and I’m sure they found it cool.

Most colleges expect some level of foreign language. If you have taken beyond the minimum they will appreciate that. Self-studying Esperanto could be an interesting essay topic, not much else.

They’ll probably be as underwhelmed as if u had spent the time learning something as useful as Middle Earth Elvish.

Yeah… I kind of figured it wouldn’t be too impressive. Thanks for confirming that.
