Do colleges look at FAFSA while making decisions?

I have this tremendous mess up with FAFSA and it look really fishy (I will rectify this though), so I was wondering whether this would have any impact on my admissions decision.

nope...only the financial aid department will see your FAFSA...if you are accepted...otherwise no one at your college will see it

That's not entirely true. Some schools are need-aware, meaning that if they start running out of money to give aid, they will look at your FAFSA and factor it into your decision.

what college is that??

I don't have a complete list... I know Vassar did up until this year, and I think Carleton and Macalester do.

WashU is one of them!

damn that's mean.

It's easier to ask what schools are need-blind (*i.e.*your financial need has no impact on your admissions decision). Only the very top level of schools are need-blind and meet 100% of need. The rest are need-aware, and many of the schools outside of the top 100 or so also "gap" - they don't meet 100% of need.

According to Wikipedia, 38 schools claim to be need blind and meet 100% of need. The article also states, "experts speculate the actual number is much lower--perhaps about eight to twelve schools nationwide."
