Do Colleges look at increasing grades

Do colleges(UC's / Ivy's) look at increases in grades?
Like for instance, if i had a 3.7 weighted gpa in freshman year.
and 4.2 in sophomore year.
and 4.5 in junior year, (probably 4.4/4.5 in senior)would it be as good as someone who has been getting 4.4 or 4.3 consistently through the years.
I ask this because i screwed up/ didnt try at all in freshman year, and now dat i look back i regret that year. For UC's i'm not that worried because they don't relly look at freshman year, but do i still have a legitimate chance at Ivy's?

thanks

i know stanford said they completely cross off freshman year and recalculate grades without it, but any college would definately appreciate increasing grades, so dont stress

yeah, everyone talks about the "upward trend" they look way more favorably on someone with increasing GPAs than decreasing. Will it make you look better than someone who has been consistantly performing, who knows. I do know that a lot of schools disregard freshman year though, so relax
