Do colleges look at your language that much?

I’m a sophomore in high school and I’ve been doing fine.

I’m in all honors (Pre Calc, Eng, and Chem) which I got all As last semester, in Photoshop (got a B since the final screwed me over), and in Chinese 2 (got a B last semester). I did learn some Chinese when I was younger (but I forgot most of it :frowning: ) and my mom speaks it to me at home. However, the teacher is very strict and difficult (not to mention most of my class is fluent…) and grades harshly. This semester was harder and I will probably get a C. Should I do a different language next year or just suck it up and do Chinese 3 (you have to write essays)?

Most colleges prefer to see multiple years of the same language (e.g. Chinese 1, 2 3 and 4/ap instead of Chinese 1 + 2 and French 1 + 2).

Although some schools only require or recommend 3 years of language.

Most colleges that have foreign language requirements for applicants want to see you complete a higher level of the language.

Hopefully this is an ancillary question and not a threadjack:

I’ve been told that some schools will prefer a “more challenging” language like Latin over, say Spanish. Would that also apply to Chinese?

We are not Chinese, for the record, my son just loves taking it and plans on all 4 years. Only bad thing is since Chinese 1 starts freshman year there is no AP Chinese at our school.
