So I might have to take 1-3 semesters of online classes just because they won't fit in my schedule and I need them to graduate, specially PE and/or Chemistry. Do colleges look down on that? I talked to my counselor and she said they did. I'm going for the UC's, USC, Cornell, and UW. Also does anyone know if I need to have my arts credits done by the end of junior year? I read that somewhere but I'm not too sure if it's true.

The problem with taking Chemistry online is you miss the lab component. I don’t know if it will affect admissions, but if you want to major or minor in something chemistry related the department may be concerned that you don’t have the same lab skills as other incoming students.

No one cares if you take PE online - plenty of kids do that at D’s HS and they all get into great schools. Health and personal finance are popular online options as well - state mandated low level courses than no one would take if not for the mandatory aspect.

Chem online is generally not a good idea for the above stated reason - it’s a lab science and they really want you to have the labs. I would advise against any lab science online.

I agree, if you take Chem online and miss the lab component, I’m not sure colleges will take it very seriously.

Okay, thanks guys! Yeah I planned out my schedule for all 4 years and I was half a semester short for it. Do you guys know any good online schools for PE? That’s cheap or free maybe?

MU High School or BYU offer two well known classes. Check with your school to see who they accept.

My daughter took 3 years of Spanish online at NUVHS and Health at BYU. She was admitted to Cornell, Berkeley, UCLA (Regents), USC (Presidential), UCSD, UCD, CalPoly SLO, etc.

BYU offers PE online.

Thank you! And congrats to her! Do you mind telling me her GPA and test scores?

I took PE through Florida Virtual School, and I’m pretty sure it’s not just for Floridians. I finished each semester in about a month a piece and actually learned something. The course is pretty easy to take either during the summer or on top of a full schedule of APs.
