Do colleges really have one big ED "list"?

Just out of curiosity, do colleges really come together and send out lists of names of students accepted under their ED plan for that year? Or is it just an urban myth?

Once you accept an ED admission, yes your name will be circulated to other colleges/universities that have similar agreements and/or that have formal policies for respecting those agreements.

There are, however, plenty of places that don’t give a rip about this that will still admit you after you have committed to the ED institution. And, if you had a previous acceptance from a rolling admissions institution before filing the ED application, you will not lose that offer.

So, before you play the ED game, think things through very carefully. You need to know the policies of each institution that is on your application list.

I was rejected under ED1 awhile ago, just after seeing another post on here I was curious. Believe me, I agree that trying to cheat the ED policy is foolish.
