Do employers in internships at your college look at your cumulative gpa? Mine is a 2.56.......

Im a petroleum engineering student with a 2.56 gpa with 79 credits. I’m doing well this semester, but I fear that employers won’t care about that. They’d want to see your overall rather than your most recent. Can’t I just write my junior year gpa on my resume? I just want people to know that I’m serious now about my school work but I fear it’s too late.

It varies, some engineering firms require a 3.0 even to get an interview. This is both for internships and career positions.

You can write both cumulative and junior GPA on your resume. I’ve seen some people do that.

I, too, have seen resumes with ones overall GPA, upper division (typically junior and senior years) GPA and also a “STEM” only GPA (for those who didn’t do well with their art history classes!!).

When I was hiring college applicants, I would always ask for their latest college transcripts. I would calculate those 3 GPAs as they do give you an insight into how well that person was doing in the classes that mattered to me.
