many people i know do not know upenn or confuse it for penn state. I am going to penn in the fall. do employers know that penn is an ivy? to any penn alumni or students: does anyone you work for never heard of penn or are they all aware of it?
The hiring officers will all know the difference between Penn and Penn State. If they don’t, I’m not sure that would be a company for whom I’d want to work. Your prospective colleagues may be a different story.
@yaboi627 Penn has the best employment outcomes in the ivy keague along with Harvard. Rest assured employers know very well what Penn is otherwise they wouldnt be all coming to campus every semester to recruit new people. All of thr top firms recruit heavily at Penn and every well-educated and well-connected person knows what Penn is. The person who mistakes Penn for Penn State is your average Joe who happens to be a football fan and who also cannot name any of the other ivy league schools other than Harvard ( and maybe Yale).
You can always retort that it’s Trump’s alma mater!
@T26E4 hahah and this way it is guaranteed you will not get the job. What an embarrassment it is. Most people at Penn are quite embarrassed of the association.
Go to the Penn career services website and look at the placement data.
The average person did not go to any college, and has not reason to know the top schools for academics and careers. That is okay, because recruiters and people who hire know Penn well.
If you want to impress the average person on the street, you need to choose a school that is near them, and good at NCAA football. That is what people know. Get last year’s top 10 NCAA football rankings and attend the closest school listed. Unfortunately, students at those schools do not have the post graduation prospects that Penn students have.
New Penn students are consistently surprised by two things:
- How few people in the world have ever heard of Penn.
- How strong the demand is for Penn graduates.
