Assuming it is a need blind college
Need blind is NOT a financial aid term. It is an admisssions term . It means that the school does not, consider your ability to pay when your application for admission is considered.
The financial officers will not see your application for admission…even at need aware schools. And the office of,admissions will at not see your financial aid application. Admissions will know what your level of need is at a need aware school.
At a need blind school…the admissions. Folks won’t know your need at all.
Ok thanks! One more question…for merit based scholarships does IDOC of FAFSA or CSS etc have any bearings?
Those are usually not required for merit aid. Some schools will require them only to make sure that if you are Pell Eligible they can get those funds too.
You need to check YOUR college application list for, required submissions…even for merit aid. YMMV.
Ok. I was asking because i know some school limit financial aid based on what you already got for merit scholarships
Yes…schools often reduce need based aid because you have gotten merit awards. This is because the merit Wards REDUCE your need.
But I have to ask…what does this have to do,with anyone looking at your application for admission? Nothing!
It also has nothing to do,with admissions looking at your financial Aid application. Doesn’t happen.
And lastly…financial aid does not look at your application for admission.
If you are asking if the FA office will know about any merit awards you receive because of your application, yes, FA will know. They will also know about any merit or other awards you receive from outside sources because you are required to tell them. If you are asking if FA will get to read a really moving essay about how poor you are, no, it is unlikely they will see the application.
Last question…so it seems that merit scholarships are awarded by the admissions committee and not the financial committee? I’m just trying to wrap my head around how all this works lol
Usually merit awards are given as part of admissions because they are based on the strength of your application for admission.
