I am looking to apply to Wesleyan. I currently attend a highly ranked liberal arts school. I sort of chose my school instead of Wes when I applied since the ranking thing got to me. I applied ED and got into a top 5 LAC. But now, I realize how stupid that was. I would fit in at Wes so much more. I am having a very negative first semester, and I am looking for an out...

Anyways, I am just about done with my first semester of college. I am planning on taking the spring semester off. So, do I apply as a freshman or as a transfer? And will I get credit for my fall semester classes? The Wesleyan website wasn't very clear about that...

You’d apply as a transfer. It really depends on what classes you’ve taken that semester. Check w/ the school to see if certain classes will transfer over.

So Amherst, Williams, Middlebury and Bowdoin are so different from Wes?

Stick it out where you are, and complete the freshman year!!!

Yes, as a matter of fact, they are extremely different! Wes has always been my favorite school in the world, but I grew up 5 minutes away. I thought I needed to go further away for college. But now I kind of regret that decision…

I too feel compelled to question whether you are making this decision a bit too soon. Clearly you dont want to hear this but … are you perhaps feeling homesick? I also wonder how it will look to admissions that you didn’t complete your freshman year. Have you talked to an adviser at your school about your plans?

No, I’m not really feeling homesick at all. In fact, I am enjoying being in a new place and surrounded by new things.

I know it seems soon, but my school is just not a good fit for me. I was raised in a very alternative family, and I just feel kind of a divide with my fellow students. My school is very serious and straight-laced, and most of the students are very wealthy and preppy. There isn’t much of a scene outside of sports and partying. I need a school that is more quirky and “weird,” for lack of better word. And Wesleyan can certainly provide that for me.

I would call the admissions office and ask them. They seem to accept quite a few transfers. I know of at least three students who transferred in as sophomores. They are all extremely happy. Good luck!
