Do I even have a chance?

I'm right about to wrap up my Junior year and just started to compile college lists in preparation for the fall, but I have no idea if I'm even targeting the right schools, or if all of these are way out of my reach (the guidance department at my school doesn't really help us a ton in the college search). These are the schools I was considering:
- Stanford
- Columbia
- Duke
- Penn
- NYU
- UC Berkeley
- UCLA
- Pomona
- Villanova
- Boston College

And here are all my stats, thanks for chancing!

SAT I (breakdown): 2250, 760CR, 780M, 710W
SAT II: Math II (800), my Literature and Chemistry scores are pending
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): Don't do UW, but W is 4.2
AP (place score in parenthesis): Took AP USH, AP BC Calc, AP Chem, AP Lang and Comp, and AP Human Geography this year
Senior Year Course Load: AP Econ, AP Physics, AP Lit, AP Stat, AP Gov't and Politics, AP French
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): I don't want to go into too much detail about this because its really specific, but I won a national competition that was sponsored by Microsoft, where the objective was to invent a new product, AMC 12 School Winner, AIME Qualifier

Extracurriculars:
- Varsity Tennis Team - First Singles, Captain (2 years), MIP, All-State Team (4 years), trained in China/India during a few summers while my dad was on business there
- Tennis Instructor at Local Club - primarily teaching summer camps
- Sports Columnist at Town Newspaper
- Future Civic Leaders (Club Ambassador)
- Youth and Government (Senator)
- Head Hairstylist/Makeup Artist for Musical Theatre Productions at My School
- YouTube Beauty Channel - don't wanna get too specific here, but my channel has been pretty successful, I've been a YouTube partner for nearly two years now, partner with other companies to promote their products as well
- NHS (Peer Tutor), Private Tutor
- Girl Scouts (10 years), Gold Award, Volunteer with Girl Scouts around my area
- This is also very specific, but a friend and I started a baking company about a year and a half ago after my father lost his job. It is primarily run online, and my role is primarily to program/maintain our company's website and manage finances
- Jazz Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, self-taught Guitar and Piano

State: NJ
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: F

Thanks again everybody!

You have a great chance! Keep it up and make sure you dont slack off. Maybe narrow in one of your ec’s and do a fancy internship to show that you’re not just all over the place and that you have a specific focus. Overall, I’m sure you’ll get into most of those.

chance back please? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1514727-do-you-think-i-can-get-into-yale.html

Casually gonna bump this…

Stanford - Reach
Columbia - Reach
Duke - Reach
Penn - Reach
NYU - Match
UC Berkeley - High Match / Low Reach (depends on program and whether or not you need money)
UCLA - Same as CAL
Pomona - Don’t know much so won’t chance
Villanova - In as long as you don’t kill anyone from here on out
Boston College - Match

Stanford: Reach
UPenn: Reach
Columbia: Reach
Duke: Reach
NYU: Match
Berkeley: Match (can you pay full-freight?)
UCLA: Match (see above)
Pomona: Reach
Villanova: Safety (this is the one school I know of where Asians actually have any sort of advantage)
BC: Match

What’s your problem with Rutgers? Or Rutgers is your absolute safety?

Nothing against Rutgers at all, I just didn’t really like the atmosphere of the campus when I visited. I would love it if anyone could suggest some other safety schools though

Stanford- Reach
Columbia - reach
Duke - reach
Penn - reach
NYU -match
UC Berkeley - match
UCLA - match
Pomona - match
Villanova - match
Boston College - match

Can u chance mine as well?

Pomona is a no, but you might want to consider CMC if you like the Claremonts. They are more willing to look at ecs. Pomona really doesn’t sub ecs for top stats, and your uw GPA is probably around a 3.7 and your scores aren’t high enough.

However, never underestimate the power of girls in AP Physics. If you can improve your GPA this year, you should be competitive at many of the schools on your list. (Duke, Villanova, BC, Penn - the others are all very high reaches unless you can do a killer sell).

The first four are reaches (as they are for everyone else), as for the rest of them:

NYU: High Match (meaning its realistic for you to get in)
UC Berkeley: High Match
UCLA: High Match/Almost safety
Pomona: Match
Villanova: Safety
Boston College: High Match

Your EC’s and scores look really good! Good luck!

sakacar, do you have any advice on where I need to bump up my scores? I thought I was doing ok, but I guess my scores are kind of low…I’m just not sure how to improve any further

Also with my GPA, it is a bit lower than some of my classmates, however most of the students with higher averages choose easier courses in their favor so that it will turn out that way. For example, the average number of AP courses a student at my school takes is 3-4, and I’m taking 11 throughout my high school career.

Some good safety schools would be Penn State, University of Maryland, University of Delaware, maybe University of Pittsburgh, I wouldn’t call Boston U a safety but you got a good chance. By the way I had similar stats and extra curricular and didn’t get into UC Berkeley.
