Hello! I’m currently a senior in college and I am applying to Swarthmore for next fall.I’m thinking about the engineering program there. I like how it’s a small college with a full engineering program as opposed to the 3-2 program that most liberal arts colleges have. What I’m wondering is what are my chances for getting in?
Superscored ACT: 32
3.97 GPA (unweighted?)
I’ve taken a pretty rigorous class load with 4 AP classes…for the record APUSH
Extracurriculars:
Volleyball-4 years
Track- 3 years
Band- 4 years
Jazz Band- 3 years
Marching Band- 2 years
Forensics- 1 year
Volunteer/Community Service:
Math Tutoring- 2 years
Volleyball Camp Coach- 1 year
Leadership:
Delegate for Badger Girls State
I also regularly babysit and have a part time job at the local grocery store in my town
Thanks really appreciate it!
Yes…ACT I’m from the midwest…no it is not all cornfields and cows, we have horses too:)
3.97 gpa… wew
yeah you probably have a good chance
Hey thanks for responding ragueneau
You sound great good luck to you but as I told my son who is also applying Ed ,admission decisions come down to so many factors you didn’t say but are you a recruit able athlete also does swarthmore superstore act
I do think being from Midwest could help my son lives close to swarthmore which will be a negative in admission
Thanks!! I wasn’t planning on being a recuit athlete…I’ve had enough of playing varsity sports for a lifetime, club or intramurals are more my style… and yes Swarthmore does superscore.
However, while I think Swarthmore is great, I am not applying early decision, because I just am not sure if I’d like to tie myself down to a school right away…does that hurt my chances?
I def. am not an expert. it does seem to appear that ED at most schools have higher admission stats so for example last yr I believe ED was about 33 percent admission rate and only about 12 percent in the RD stat however EVEN though that appears much easier to get in ED I have been told that the number is falsely elevated due to athletes/legacies tend to be in that ED pool. that is true at most schools . I would though particularly at small schools make sure to show demonstrated interest(visit if you can, interview, contact regional rep)as demonstrated interest is important. I have no idea about Swarthmore and demonstrated interest though.
