BornToSing, if you have been following what's going on in journalism lately, you will no doubt know that employment in reporting/news media is as unstable as it is in acting or the performing arts! :)

Born to Sing -

My D loves Indiana. I don't know what your options as a transfer are but Jacob's School of Music is amazing. I just want to echo my admiration for your spirit and drive. They will take you whereever you want to go. Keep us posted because I'd love to hear how your journey goes. I wish you the best

NotMamaRose, that's great- I'll have to tell her that! haha
But then she'll just push being a nurse...because she is, lol She's not swaying me at all, either way. ;D

HoosierMom, I believe I can apply as a transfer at Indiana. It's on my list...& thank you so much; I do believe my drive will get me where I wanna go, bc as my friend always says, I'm "running like I've already won the race", and I know my hard work will pay off.

I will definitely keep y'all posted- I couldn't do this without you! <3

So far, I have my high school & college transcripts being sent to:

Baldwin-Wallace
Ithaca
Webster University
University of the Arts
Marymount Manhattan
SUNY Fredonia
Montclair State
Millikin
Wagner
Pace
Oklahoma City
& Indiana

I finished my app for Millikin & got almost all of my recommendations given out...just need my music teacher to fill his ones out. Signed up for 3 audition dates, 2 @ Unified and one in NYC for Marymount.

I just gotta get my applications filled out/essays written & then I can start getting my audition stuff together! Aaaahh! haha
This is gonna be quite the journey on my own! :D

BorntoSing - you put together a great list, and hats off to you for doing this all on our own. We are all rooting for you here! Keep us posted on hows things go :D.

BornToSing, as MTgrlsmom says, we are all rooting for you! It sounds as if you have a real goal in mind and a definite plan with which to accomplish it, and I believe from what you say above that nothing is going to stand in your way.

Though I am sorry that you don't have a lot of help or support from parents, one thing is for sure: when victory is yours, it will be all the sweeter.

I know it's a cliche, but keep your eye on the prize.

Best wishes!!!

BorntoSing -- that is right... now I remember. I sent you a PM :) You have a great list of schools! All the best.

I am rooting for you, too! Please keep us posted on your upcoming acceptances and plans!

Update for Everyone:

I FINISHED ALL MY APPLICATIONS!!!!!!
I was literally typing/writing three days straight, wrote my last essay tonight, & submitted my CommonApps & BW! I'm so excited!!

Now I just have to make sure to get all my auditions set up tomorrow. My mom's been freaking out financially- she has no idea how I'm gonna actually get TO the auditions, other than the Unifieds and Baldwin-Wallace (she has family in Ohio)...I dunno, either, but I'm hoping I get a chance to audition at all of them. My uncle flies for American Airlines, so I know he can get me a good deal on flights...it's just so many trips back and forth every week.

So far, I think this is what my audition schedule is gonna be:
Unifieds
Ithaca - Feb. 7, 8:00 AM-12:00 PM
Webster - Feb. 7, 3:00-3:30 PM
University of the Arts - requested, but no official day/time yet
Montclair State - left a voicemail & called...no answer yet

Pace - not sure yet...either Jan. 31 (if I wanna audition THAT friggin' early) or Feb. 15
SUNY Fredonia - Feb. 21; requested, no confirmation yet
Baldwin-Wallace - Feb. 28; requested, no confirmation yet
Millikin - March 6; have to be admitted into the school first
Indiana - March 7; hoping - have to preaudition first...3-4 hour drive from Millikin. Figured I could work it out into one trip bc March 7 is the only date I can.
Marymount Manhattan - March 14
OKC - March 28; requested, no confirmation yet
Wagner - can't find the audition dates...?

It's gonna be craaaazy! How do you guys fly back & forth like that? Am I even being realistic? Bc according to my mom, I'm totally not. Then again, she doesn't understand such selective schools & applying to more than 3 colleges anyway...sigh

I've got finals this week- funnn stuff. Even though I'll be studying, it'll be nice to read something other than applications. lol :)

BorntoSing, you are doing a great job! Wagner's audition date for prospective freshman is March 1 (there is only one) and last year the transfer audition date was February 28 (there was only one) so it's probably in that vicinity this year. Why don't you call the department or admissions office to find out quickly. Your app must be in and pass academic muster before you can audition (which shouldn't be a problem in your case) and if you can't make the audition date, they accept video auditions. In trying to schedule 2 auditions in a day, check with the first school to get a handle on how long you can expect to be tied up. It's not unusual to spend 3-5 hours at a shot at each audition so you will want to plan accordingly.

MichaelNKat, I'm gonna call the admissions office tomorrow. I probably will audition by video, since I have so many other auditions & it's not within driving distance.

Thanks for the info! Really appreciate it. :]

Is there any way you can do Pace, Marymount Manhattan and Wagner closer together, to allow you to make one trip to the New York area? Just a thought.

The only dates for MT at Pace are Jan. 31, Feb. 1, Feb. 15, March 1, and March 8.
March 14 is all Marymount has available for MT.
And I can't find the actual transfer date for Wagner...I'm gonna call them today.

I will be in school during auditions, btw. Taking 23 hours next semester! So I won't be able to miss much class...that's my main reason for making so many weekend trips. But I would prefer to have dates closer together- I just don't see any working out b/c they're all so different. :/

If anyone knows of any schools&dates that are close together and would work for one trip for me, please let me know. I'm not familiar enough with all the different areas to know what's possible and what's not. Especially in New York.

BorntoSing
When you call to set up your appointments be sure to ask if any of the schools accept dvd video auditions as that could save you some travel. ;)

Ttmom, thanks! Will do! :]

Left another lame voicemail for Montclair State...sounded like a babbling idiot. Hahh.

Wagner's transfer date is Feb. 27, so I'm gonna do a VHS/DVD audition.

Just have to wait for the other schools to get my applications/audition forms in, so my dates can be confirmed...

Ttmom, if you've looked at my audition schedule, are there specific schools that you think I should ask about a video audition, or just all of them? lol

I called Pace to ask about video audition. Left another voicemail, rawrrr.

Ahhh, the babbling-idiot voice mail. I am queen of those! LOL

You're doing great, BorntoSing. If you can swing all these auditions and 23 hours, too, I will bow at your feet (and your feat).

Speaking of Montclair, it's very close to NYC, so you might be able to combine that one with Pace, Marymount, and/or Wagner.

Musicmom, haha Thanks so much! I'll be amazed if I can pull it off myself!!

Onstage, heyy, you're right! Montclair's only 30 mins. away from Pace, and my Pace audition was gonna be Jan. 31 or Feb. 15...if I did Feb. 15, Montclair has one for Feb. 14. That could work!

What do y'all think? Should I just do a video for Montclair, or is it better to audition in person?

Personally I think it's always better to audition in person -- not only do you have an opportunity to interact with faculty, but it also gives you an opportunity to see the campus and facilities. Montclair has an awesome new theater!

Yeah, that's what I think. It'd be nice to see the campus before I actually go to a school.
