My grades suck, like they really, really suck. It's mainly math, sorta science, but my language arts classes are okay. I'm really interested in schools like Purchase, Marymount Manhattan, AADA or some other good conservatory...I'm not sure yet. But obviously I want to go for acting and get my BA or BFA or something..again not so sure. But will my fairly crappy academics get in the way of getting accepted to any of these schools? I'm a junior in hs btw...

Dutch my D has sucky grades to, but they’re on an upward trend (not saying much from where they were). Also has crummy scores. And she’s applying to all the usual BFA acting suspects regardless of those things. Her passion is acting, pure and simple. If the schools she wants don’t work for her this year, she’ll try again (I hope, if she has the stamina) next year, maybe after getting her grades up more.

Try to get your grades up this year, suffer through the math & science with as much extra help as possible, keep your humanities grades as high as you can. Get your teachers behind you for support, academic help & recommendations. And get some good acting skills - who knows what will happen for you in the next year?

We’re not paying attention to the admission numbers. My D’s just doing her thing - acting and being who she is and trying to do better in school - and we’re hoping for good things. And trying not to let the supercharged kids psyche her out.

There was a saying from ‘back in the day’ when I was in high school: keep on keeping on.

You don’t need really high grades for Purchase or AADA. It’s mostly about the audition.

Thank you both! I’ve been praying that they would be more for the audition so…lets hope :D

You will be alright auditioning at Purchase with a low GPA. Be ready to put in the work, but they definitely will be more interested in your audition!
