Do I even have a chance?

Stats

-Ethnicity and gender: Asian male (>>)
-GPA: 3.4W, 2.95UW (>>) [though junior GPA is solid at 3.85W, 3.3UW)
-SAT [basing off of PSAT]: 800 Math, 600 Reading, 690 Writing (1400 2subject, 2090 3subject)

-Rank: About 170/430 (we have all the smart kids this year >_>)
-AP tests: Predicting at least 4,4; probably 5,5 for the two I'm taking this year

Subjective stuff

-Essays: Above Average
-Recs: Average
-Other stuff: High placement in math olympiads (8th out of freshmen and 4th out of sophomores in AMC10, 4th in SCHOOL in AMC 12 [missed AIME by 1 question], 4th every year in MAML, projected 40+ in HMNT [school average is about a 7])
-My school is a very competitive school in Massachusetts (already a competitive state)

XC's

-XC (cross country) and track: 1 year
-Math team: 4 years
-Science team: 2 years (helped greatly in getting school team to 4th)
-All town orchestra: 4 years
-Tae Kwon Do: 9+ years (possible leadership credit)
-Martial Arts Club: 2 years
-Community service: 20+ hours (fail...)

The schools

MIT (even I know I have no chance bar a 70+ on the HMNT)
U Illinois Urbana Champaign
UC Irvine
Boston College
Boston University
UMass Amherst
SUNY Binghamton
SUNY Albany
Northwestern
Northeastern
Seattle University
UMass Lowell

You have a good shot at all except MIT and Northwestern if you show a rising trend.

MIT is a 0%. Above 90% of thier students were in the top 5% of thier high schools. Your SAT scores are still below average for Northwestern and Boston College, and the GPA kind of seals the deal, meaning those two schools are very very lofty reaches. However, the rest of the schools are all very well in your range. If you’re looking to major in engineering, then I would HIGHLY recommend Urbana Champaign. Also, being an asian male slightly diminishes your chances at any good school. Kills me to say this, because I’m an asian male junior too.

Not a 0% for MIT, but less than a 1% chance. Northwestern and BC look like reaches – the rest seem from safety to high matches. Good luck.

^

Agree. I think UCI is a low to mid reach, too.

No chance at UC Irvine
