*looking at any 6,7,8 year program (George washington, albany, indiana, tufts, miami, virginia commonwealth)

Thanks

you definitely are competitive at those schools. be sure to play up your interest in science/medicine, so they see the passion behind "typical" EC's like volunteer work at a hospital

i know this seems redundant but which of the schools i listed do i have a shot at

i can sepak for GW when i tell u that u have a slight chance.

From what they told me the SAT cut off is 1300, you have 1310.

I could be wrong bout this but i remember them saying u need 3 SAT II's too, double check that. I might be wrong.

You courseload isnt too competative in terms of what medical hopefuls are taking at my school...these kids have 6-7 AP's per year, and will graduate with 10+. And do excellent on their AP exams.

You EC's arent bad, but many people have unbelievable medical experience which go far beyond hospital volunteering.

These things are hard bro, go for it anyway, but have a backup plan. Dont lose hope, just know its very very difficult to get into these programs. Especially GW's and Tufts.

Also, before you apply, check to see how the medical schools you would be attending measure up, assuming you get in. Some jsut arent worth it, some are. I mean nothing beats a guarenteed ticket to medical school...but i wouldnt go to certain medical schools. So take that into consideration. Also see if they require MCATs, because if they do, why are you really in the 7 year? You will just have to do that anyway and you can get into a better medical school if you get their score or higher.

Just a few things to consider.

thanks doogie, i need an honest opinion. I'm also considering UCSD (not the scholars prog), but from what i heard i really want to go to Virginia Comm. what do u guys think me chances are at those.

btw...im cali resident
Thanks btw for all the opnions

USC may be a match. I think you're out of the running for Albany, Miami you might have a shot at an interview if you write a good essay and do well on APs and such. There's so many straight med programs out there. I would suggest that you try to improve your writing and verbal scores, and if you got an 800 on IIc you should be able to get an 800 on the math. If you can improve your SAT scores you might have a chance at some places. I had similar scores except I got an 800 on my SAT I math and a 680 verbal. I had a 690 and writing and 710 on chem. My GPA was similar to yours but my ECs probably weren't as good. I only got into UMKC and got an interview at Miami, but I eventually didn't get in. I thought I did rather badly at my interview and evidently I did. I went to UMKC for a year and transferred out because it just didnt' work out. Just make sure you REALLY want to do medicine. Also look at the structure of the programs and if they require the MCAT like Doogie said. But as I said before, there are a lot of programs out there. I would suggest that you take the SAT I again, keep working hard on school and APs, and do your research as to find middle tier straight med programs. I would look into USC if I were you. You could apply to Miami if you really like it, and for undergrad they are generous with scholarship money. You might have a chance at those schools along with GWU. I have a cousin who went to Tufts but I don't know what her stats were and I didn't look into when I was applying, so I have no personal experience. Just try your best and do your research and good luck!
