Do I have a chance at all? (ED applicant)

I really like Midd and some of the other really competitive LACs such as Amherst, Colgate, Carleton, Haverford etc. I know I'm not the best applicant, but I was hoping that along with Early Decision my URM and EC's would be able to get me into a big reach. I could also potentially get help from the swim coach (so far only contacted by Colby College for swimming which is not nearly the level that Midd's at so probably unlikely). If I applied ED would I have a decent shot at getting in? If not, what about Carleton? HELP PLEASE. Applying to college blows.

As a URM with 1470 (math + verbal) you should have a decent chance. Obviously, that’s a great CR score. If math comes up even 30 points it might be helpful. Your grades may be a bit of an issue but could be outweighed by the scores and recommendations. It makes sense to reach out to the swimming coach. If Carlton is easier to get into, it’s a VERY slight difference. They are probably equally difficult. So try the one you want the most. Have you visited? Just make sure that you feel certain, of course, if you go early decision.

I also think you have a chance. The swim coach is new, so I’d fill out the recruiting form-there may be some turnover on the team, and an opportunity for a few more swimmers.

Your test scores are as good as many recruited athletes…Grades not, but be sure to get a transcript showing your current excellent grades.

You have good ECs and while your SATs and grades are on the low side, they aren’t hopeless, the upward trend is good, and your heritage will help you. I think you would be a good addition.
Go for it!

I would reach out to the coach ASAP as I know several kids from my community going on their recruiting trips there in the next couple of weeks.
