sorry, the bullets are confusing, but i helped coach a 5th and a 7th grade basketball team. sorry for the confusion.

I am by no means an expert on the college admissions process but I say two things. Firstly, obviously try to raise your ACT to at least a 32. In fact, I would completely drop the SAT because it appears you have the same problem that I have, you aren’t that great of an SAT-test taker. After that, try and win a few more awards. Your volunteer time and dedication to your church are superb (I wish I put that amount of time into the Church = D). However, you almost have so many volunteer hours that colleges will stop caring and start looking at your awards. If you can get your ACT higher and gather a few more awards, then applying ED to Penn would not be unreasonable. However, if you cannot do those things apply ED elsewhere because Penn would probably be too big of a reach.

Thanks for the help; I will try hard.

and where do you recommend applying early decision to if my act score somehow does not get to a 32+?

bumppppp…

Hmm well idk. I know they are not on your list but possibly Notre Dame, Georgetown, and even Washu would be somewhat feasible.

okay thanks a lot. so you think i have a shot at some of the schools on my list like boston college, georgetown, villanova (i know upenn is a huge reach but im still going to try)?

helloooo lol?

Something to add…my best combined act score is a 31 (34 reading, 32 math, 30 english, 28 science). In addition, I am interning at an investment banking firm in the NYC this summer. Will this help my chances at any of the schools?

Well… may I ask, how did you do on the SAT II’s and SAT that you retook?

SAT IIs are 650 math I, 630 math II, lit was not good. 1950 SAT (on page 1). As of now, I will be using my ACT (probably taking again to get 32+). I am most likely taking others/retaking in the fall. I love Boston College, Georgetown, Nova, Fordham. But Penn is my number one choice.

I know that Penn is a big reach for me but I am still probably going to apply early decision to maximize my chance of getting in. It’s my dream and I am going to give it a shot - plus you never know because college admissions tends to be a crapshoot. Also, I will be more than happy if I get into Georgetown (I know, another reach), Boston College (more of a match/low reach), Villanova, or Fordham. Anyone else want to comment?

i think you have it right in that you look like a good fit for boston college and more of a reach for georgetown. im not too familiar with the other schools. penn is a reach for most people.

You don’t need a 2250+ to get into Penn… Your ECs, grades, and 31 ACT are all very solid, and if Penn’s your dream school, I don’t see why you should even second guess applying ED. Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback. bdl108…thanks for the confidence booster. I have seen kids with 31s get into wharton so I am going for it. Plus I feel that my internship will help me a lot, especially for business schools. You really never know with college admissions. anyone else?

bummpp…

anyone else…
