Hi CC!

I'm finishing up my NU application this weekend and submitting it in a few days, and I want to know, do you think I have a chance?

my GPA is 3.97 weighted (but that's all my school reports)
I have 5 pages explaining my extracurricular, I'm president or captain of at least 4 different things, from a current events club to law team to drumline.
I've studied abroad over two summers, I'm nearly fluent in spanish
I've taken mostly APs, this year taking Physics C, Calc AB, Music Theory, and Computer Science.
I have taken courses at UC San Diego (for credit, A+ earned).
I'm applying to the dual degree program - computer science and bachelors in arts, music (music cognition and theory).
I have a pretty impressive portfolio for both music and programming, and my essays are solid. I'm worried my grades are going to be... not good enough. Thoughts?

Edit: My act is a 33 :D

hello, hello.

Your ACT is certainly competitive. Your weighted GPA is very hard to evaluate without knowing how your school weights. For example, in some schools, there really isn’t much difference between the weighted and unweighted numbers. If this is the case, and your UW GPA was in the 3.7-3.8 range, I’d say you have an average-above average shot. Other schools are much more generous with their weighing. If this is the case and your GPA was more in the 3.4-3.5 range, I’d say NU becomes a somewhat of a reach for you, though not impossible.

In any event, if this is the place you really want to go, you should apply.

I’m definitely applying. do you think me writing extra essays (research paper and two music papers) will help my chances? also, I have a very specific idea of what I want to do with my degree, should that also help?

thanks for your help :D

By extra Essays, do you mean as a part of the application? If so – you’d have to contact the school. I honestly don’t know whether they will look at this. If you mean will it help if it’s something that you’ve submitted elsewhere. It’s a factor.

Having a very specific idea of what you want to do can help – especially if it fits in with program that is offered ad NU. Kind of makes a good “Why NU?” essay, doesn’t it.

How much will it help? I really can’t say.
