unweighted gpa: 3.5
grades have been consistent all through high school with 3.5/4.0's
(go to a top 10 public school, so its different than other schools...)

SAT: 1850
(i know, extremely low, i freak out when i take standardized tests)

ACT: 27

Extracurriculars: everything you can imagine

president of a club, vice president of another, member of amnesty international, local ambulance core/youth corps member for last 2 years (12 hours a week), volunteer at local nursing home 8 hours a week, job at bagel store for last 2 years, sports every season all through highschool (soccer, softball, cross country/track), co-captain of 2 different teams, volunteer tutoring for chilldren at nearby church, volunteer at soup kitchen, part of town solid waste advisory board, 6 sports awards

Ethnicity: Hispanic

i have low stats, but could i have a chance?

i would say you're a reach with your GPA act/sat, but all your EC's and your ethnicity would help a lot. About a 33 is needed for non-legacies/non-athletes , but I have a hispanic friend who got a 29. What is your class rank?

did your hispanic friend get in to Notre Dame with the 29?

my school doesn't tell students their rank... but I'm definately top 10%. the valedictorian in my grade has a 4.1, and my school is very well known- we send about 30 people to cornell every year, 3 to princeton last year, 4 to harvard... its ridiculous, makes me feel dumb!

i just wish their was some way to shows admissions how much I love ND...

I think the average I saw from several different sources said the average ACT for this year's ND freshman class was 32.75. That would include athletes and legacies, so I assume the non-athlete, non-legacy, non-URM average ACT/SAT might be even higher.

OP-Best wishes and Good Luck! I believe your URM status may help you quite a bit at ND.

sryrstress- is the 32.75 average for the applicants who were admitted early action?

Does anyone know how much URM status affects you at ND? Could that really change my chances? For some schools, it doesn't really make a difference...

alright, thanks jvon!! makes me feel a little bit better....

does anyone have any advice on how to show your interest in ND? i know a lot of schools really look for the amount of interest you show/ if you say its your top choice

call admissions all the time! be annoying... theyll put u in touch wit ur "regional rep" which is just some1 from admissions assigned to every region (obviously), but, yeah, try to get to know them by asking random questions and what not, and it'll significantly boost your chance (i actually think that's how i got off the wait list)... for ND, showing interest and writing a good essay are SO MUCH more important than at any other school!!!! keep that in mind

Do not be annoying. Ask legitimate questions, if you have them, or possibly send your regional rep an email detailing why you fit Notre Dame so well and why you really really really want to attend.

I pretty much agree with everyone. And write about how much you want to go to ND in your essay, and about how your ethnicity will help you succeed there. Don't let your scores bring you down, you can do it!

Also, just out of curiosity, what grading system do you use? 4.1 just seems low for class val...

maybe "annoying" wasn't the right word, but I would think of/make it legitimate questions just to call--they record every time u call, and it worked for me, at least... maybe that's y i had to wait until the wait list tho lol

thanks for the advice guys! i will definately try to do this... i'm trying to think of some legitamate questions to ask.

vc08-- my essay didn't really talk about my interest in notre dame. i chose the essay topic where it asked how i am different from my peers.... since I am from a very homogeneous town,i wrote about how my clothing represents my values/ activiities important to me in my life ect (because everyone in my town is white and wears the exact same thing/ follows the crowd... i hope no one thinks this sounds mean cause it isn't!)....

my essay sounds dumb, but it was pretty good

the grading system at my school is not really weighted at all. no classes are weighted based on honors.... the only thing that's weighted are AP classes, which at the end of the year are factored in adding .2 (so if you had a 4.0 you then have a 4.2 factored in as your final grade)

jvon--- are you a current student at notre dame?
