Chances...

I'm going to be a senior next year and Notre Dame is my first choice, but i'm not sure i have a shot of getting in because i went through a rough spot with depression and my grades reflect it some. Please be honest as to if i should even apply.

GPA: weighted 3.87
ACT: 30
rank: 12/56 (yea, i know)

Took all honors courses and college credit. Only bad grade was freshman year a C in honors algebra 1/2 but since then got an A+ in college prep algebra.

yearbook editor
student council president
NHS
Varsity soccer (1st team all conference for soccer) , basketball
Teenage health consultant
leading role in 2 plays
Diversity Club
Community service organizer

You're a long shot...but there is hope.

the soccer and basketball will help...make sure you state that you are all-conference

in your personal statement, i would talk about how you overcame the depression and how it has made you stronger. i hate to say this but you can use this to your advantage, exibiting yourself to the Committee on Admissions.

If you don't get in, do what I did and transfer.

we seem like we're in the exact same position, although i didnt have a depression issue. I had a terrible freshman year after my brother passed away. and it has dropped my unweighted to 3.85, weighter to 4.05. im student council predient, nhs, in sport, and 7/56. I know there is like no hope of me getting in... but i really hope (for our sakes) the committee is having a good day when they look over us. Good luck hun. ill be praying for you!

I also hit a depression patch, so I can relate. Regardless, I do think you should try, though I do think it is a reach (like it was for me). Give it a shot, you never know. If it doesn't work out (I was rejected) you can always transfer in if Notre Dame is really where you want to be. You never know, you may even make graduate with honors :). If you want to know more about my story hit up my website at www.nd.edu/~mnadorff/transfer but long story short know that it is a reach but I still think you should apply and talk some about your depression in your application.
