Do I have a chance?

Hello, I am a white male from the midwest and I was wondering what my chances would be at MIT. I would love to attend Sloan!

My GPA is a 3.95 unweighted and my class rank is 7 out of 318.

I have taken every honors course that my school offers and all but one of the AP classes.

I scored a 34 on the ACT
English-35
Math-35
Reading-35
Science-31
Writing-11
Combined English/Writing-34

I am the president of Future Business Leaders of America, the Vice President of Distributive Educational Clubs of America (basically a marketing club), and the Vice President of Science Club. I am involved in a variety of other clubs, but I am not an officer in any of those. I was also the Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership selectant from my school.

My EconChallenge and FinanceChallege teams have consistenly placed in the top 5 in the state (Nebraska, so not crazy impressive), I think around four times and I would expect to place again this year.

I have been volunteering for Big Brothers Big Sisters for three years now, with a total of about 125 hours. I volunteer for the American Red Cross when possible (75 or so hours) and helped in a Congressman's campaign for re-election during my sophomore year (75 hours as well).

Any insight/comments would be greatly appreciated.

You apply to MIT; if accepted, you can take classes at Sloan. You never apply to specific majors or departments as a prospective undergraduate.

The midwest is under-represented, and your interests and statistics look strong. You should definitely apply, but it isn’t possible to chance you. It’s a long shot for everyone.

I did Econ Challenge too! I wish we had Finance Challenge here in CA :(.
What are your SAT II’s like?

I can’t really chance you much… but I am assuming you are going Wharton as well?

I haven’t taken the SAT or the SAT II’s… Hopefully it’s not make or break. They aren’t really that big for midwest schools so all I have ever been told was that I should take the ACT and go to University of Nebraska Lincoln, but I’m realizing now that that was a huge mistake. Ya I’ll probably apply to Wharton as well, but again not having taken the SAT or SAT II’s will probably hurt big time.

You’re from CA? I am too, I live in SD.
How’re you going with apps?

You look good. I can’t chance you accurately since I’m not an admissions officer but you have a chance
VP of science club? What are you guys doing this year? I’m hoping to get my science club another booth at the annual science festival.

You can submit your ACT scores for MIT, no problem, but you do have to take two SAT IIs (one math, one science) to be considered for admission. If you want to apply to MIT, you’ll need to take them by the January test date.

Yay! I am from Santa Barbara county… so pretty far north from SD

Well I am pretty much done with it… I am probably gonna be tweaking my essays for the next 18 days, sending them out to other ppl, reading it every day, etc. I am planning to submit it on oct 28th  for EA.

Oh and I got my rec letters being processed as well.

What about you?
